Friday 26th of July is White Ribbon Night, a night for all Australians to join together and campaign to stop violence against women. As part of the world’s largest male-led movement to end men’s violence against women, the Midland Information Debt and Legal Advocacy Service Inc. (MIDLAS) promotes this campaign and encourages all Australians to declare that violence against women is unacceptable.
White Ribbon Night is aimed at raising awareness and funds for the prevention of violence against women. In Australia, there is at least one woman killed every week by a former or current partner, and at least one in four young Australians witnessing violence against their mothers. Ambassador for the campaign, Andrew O’Keefe, encourages all Australians to organise a night in this Friday, and post photos and messages on social media, to let everyone know that violence against women is not okay.
When organising your night in, you can help raise funds for the cause by purchasing white ribbons, wristbands, and t-shirts, and wear them for you social media photos. You can purchase this merchandise from the White Ribbon online shop, or your local BWS or Dan Murphy’s.
