Mary, a local Indigenous woman, came to Midlas with a support worker from a local housing organisation as she was at risk of eviction due to rent arrears. Mary had  travelled up north due to a family emergency and had left her ATM card and account information at home. Whilst away, her family accessed her account which caused Mary to fall into rental arrears. Our financial counsellor worked with Mary on ways to manage her expenses in the long term and strategies to communicate with her family to ensure she was not put at risk in the future. Mary was supported to access funding from other agencies to assist with the rent arrears, and as a result Midlas was successful in saving Mary’s tenancy.
