Midlas today wins the Richard (Dick) Fletcher Award, this award acknowledges a Western Australia local government authority, organisation or group of individuals which has, through a particular field of endeavour, made a significant and enduring contribution to the advancement of consumer protection.

It was  an honour to be nominated as a finalist for the Richard (Dick) Fletcher award for the second year in a row. Midlas are delighted to be recognised as the winner this year for the work we do in the consumer protection space. Our nomination focused on the work that Midlas provides across all services in promoting and upholding the consumer rights of people with disability.

The Department of Commerce recently released material targeting consumer rights for people with disability. This is particularly important as Western Australia transitions to the WA NDIS which changes the way services are purchased and delivered. This market-based style of purchasing goods and services  opens up more choice and control for the individual but it also means that the individual needs to have a stronger awareness of their rights and responsibilities as a consumer and to be able to act upon these.
